It’s that time of year again! The leaves are starting to change, the Halloween candy has hit the shelves, and the pumpkin spice has been unleashed. Plus, the hottest toys of the season are coming out; soon the kids will be letting you know exactly what they want from what they’ve seen in-stores, on television, or the internet. Here we have listed what has been predicted by toy makers and retail giants alike to be the six of the most popular toys of the 2017 holiday season.
1. The Nintendo Switch
Marketed as family friendly, the Switch has even been advertised to be acceptable for children ages 3 and up. Its revolutionary design allows the player to transition freely between gaming experiences. The Joy-Con wireless controllers attach to a dock for more traditional game-pad play, or they can be placed on either side of a tablet screen to make more of a hand-held gaming experience. The controllers can also be completely separate, much like Nintendo’s Wii which allows for multiple players.
2. Hatchimals Surprise
You all remember how popular Hatchimals were last holiday season, and how much of a frenzied demand there was. The same trend has been predicted for this holiday season as Spin Master, makers of the hit toy, have set the release date of this special new surprise for October 6th, 2017, which is also known as Hatchimal’s day. Your child’s new friend hatches when they rub the bottom of the egg, and continue rubbing as it begins to peck to “encourage” the little creature to hatch. Hatchimals Surprise is rated for children 5 and up.
Rated 5 and up, these robotic monkey pets respond to movement and touch. It can be described as a mix between other popular interactive toys like Tamagotchi and a Furby. The monkeys are so small they can hang from a child’s finger or almost any object, and they have play-sets that can be purchased separately. Their eyes blink and their heads move side to side when your child plays with them. Tap the Fingerling on either side of their head to get different responses, hang them upside down to hear them laugh like crazy, and they react to soft strokes on the head as well. Your child will love it when they blow their Fingerling a kiss and receive one back!
4. Scoop and Learn Ice Cream Cart
Manufactured by LeapFrog and marketed for children ages 2-5, this interactive toy combines learning and the fun of ice cream, without all the mess. Smaller children will love pushing all the buttons and enjoy the music, lights, and sound effects. Meanwhile, the older kids will be in their own world playing pretend as they scoop out their favorite flavor with a magnetic scooper and drizzle on toppings. For added fun, they can “sell” their imaginary creations and place their earnings in the cash register.
5. Shopkins Shoppies Super Mall
This mall is Shopkin’s largest playset to date. It features three separate floors which have a food court, movie cinema, boutique, beauty parlor, and a tech store for your little Shoppie’s enjoyment. The boutique features a place for Shopkins to twirl and show off their latest fashions, and the playset comes with 4 exclusive Shopkins. A fun elevator lift gets figures from floor to floor easily. Recommended for ages 5 and up.
6. Teddy Ruxpin
This popular 80’s toy is making a comeback this holiday season. Rated ages 2 and up, cuddly 14-inch Teddy has a motorized mouth, touch sensors, and LCD eyes with a varying range of emotions that go with his stories and songs. He comes with three free stories and can play with or without his free App.
If you are like me, you haven’t even started shopping, but hopefully this little list will help you get started. Enjoy the holiday season!
